For the past 24 years, Bob Salerno has been a dedicated community leader, serving as the supervisor of the Police Athletic League (PAL) program for the Abington Police Department. Through PAL, he has mentored countless young people, providing them with structured, positive acivities and fostering strong relationships between youth and law enforcement. In addition to his work with PAL, Bob has also overseen the department's community service program for youth referred through the Youth Aid Panel, offering at-risk teens a second chance and the guidance they need to make better choices. Bob's compassion extends beyond youth programs. He is actively involved with Angels in Motion, an outreach organization that supports individuals struggling with substance use disorder, particularly those experiencing homelessness. His work involves direct engagement, distributing supplies, offering support, and helping connect people to recovery resources. Most recently, Bob helped launch a new non-profit, Building Bridges with Hope, dedicated to helping people experiencing homelssness - including veterans, individuals with mental health conditions, and those struggling with addiction - to get off the streets and on a path to stability. A cornerstone of this initiative is the development of a community cafe, where participants can gain valuable job skills and re-enter the workforce in a supportive, empowering environment. Bob's lifelong commitment to service reflects his deep belief in second chances, community healing, and the power of compassion-driven action. |
