16th Annual Golden Heart Banquet Honoring "Unsung Heroes" • August 6, 2011

HONOREE: JEAN HALL

Before there was an Abington Township Library at 1030 Old York Road, Abington, the Roslyn community felt a need for one in the community. Dr. Walter Merscher, offered the basement of his medical practice on Easton Road. Then the library moved to the Savings and Loan building a block away. There, Jean would do a Story Hour for the children.

Nancy Posel was hired to start an Abington Library in what was formerly a Best and Co. and a men’s clothing store. Jean was invited to a luncheon for ideas for the new library. This was not a popular proposal for a number of Abington citizens, but through their hard work they made it happen.

In 1968, while working on the Election Board, Jean was instrumental in setting up a new poll for voters at the library.

Atter she retired, Jean worked at the library entereing new library cards. She also redid two archival albums of Abington events, scenes, and stories.

She is also involved with, and has lectured for, the Old York Road Genealogical Society (OYRGS) which holds meetings in the scoeity.
