HONOREE: GREG GODFREY

Greg Godfrey was born and raised in Abington Township.  He graduated from Abington Senior High School in 1994, while participating on the boys’ varsity basketball team.  He then attended Kean University in New Jersey and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Health and Physical Education. While at college, Greg was a scholar athlete and participated on the men’s basketball team.  After college, he played professional basketball for the New York “Nationals,” which toured and played against the Harlem Globetrotters throughout the country.  

Since 2003, he has been a Health and Physical Education teacher in the Abington School District.  In 2007, Greg completed his Master of Arts in Health Education from Arcadia University (Pa).  For the past ten years, he has coached girls and boys’ basketball teams at the grade school, middle school, high school, and collegiate levels for students of various backgrounds and abilities.

In addition to teaching, Greg coaches and referees in the James Fox Memorial Basketball League in Abington Township, works as a Youth Fitness Instructor at the Abington YMCA, and volunteers with the Special Olympics and Salvation Army.  He spends countless hours in the community trying to mentor young kids in making positive decisions and being productive members of society.  He believes in forming relationships and opening lines of communication in his efforts to help our youth achieve success in all facets of their lives.

Greg and his wife, Geri Lynn, live in Abington Township with their newborn son, Gregory Jerome, and their adopted 16 year old daughter, Dominique.
