HONOREE: LILLIE RUTH DANIELS

Lillie Ruth Daniels is Founder and President of the Bread Of Life Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable organization. She retired from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia after seventeen years of service. While at Jefferson, she witnessed firsthand, the devastation of illness and disease as she escorted patients to and from cancer treatments each day.

Mrs. Daniels volunteered at homeless programs in Mt. Holly, NJ, which led to her organizing and running the “Walking For Jesus Walk-a-thon” for three years in Willingboro, NJ. All proceeds went to assist homeless individuals. She also served as a foster parent and mentor through New Jersey Family Service. In May, 2002, Lillie was diagnosed with breast cancer which spread to her lymph nodes. This required a radical mastectomy, removal of the lymph nodes and chemotherapy treatments. With the support of Simon, her husband of nineteen years, and her religious faith, her spirit never faltered.

While undergoing her own treatment, Lillie heard other patients complain about the expense of chemotherapy and medication. To her it was unthinkable that someone might not be able to pay for the something that could possibly save their lives.

Mrs. Daniels’ inspiration for creating the Bread Of Life Foundation came through a vision and a mission given to her by the Lord to help people who are suffering from cancer and other diseases. Bread Of Life lends medical equipment to people who are in need. They have potty chairs, wheelchairs, walkers, canes and also monetary donations for those who need assistance securing medications. The Foundation is supported by several fundraising events it sponsors each year and by faithful donors who contribute money, prayers and love.

As of this date, Lillie is “feeling wonderful”! She also volunteers for the American Cancer Society, and gives her testimony “anywhere there is an open door”. Lillie is grateful for the miracles of health, peace and happiness and credits the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for truly blessing her by restoring her health.
